The list should be ordered alphabetical and it would be good if admins could remove/add entries.

And perhaps we could clear the list a little bit...

Looks like it started out alphabetically but then new additions were put at the end.

A more powerful action could trake care of this (and allowing additions). But then you get a "merge" problem with upgrading since it is essentially a list distributed with Wikka which the action "documents" to show which are available.

That would call for some centralized repository - if it doesn't alrealy exist somewhere?

well, the action could generate a user.interwiki.conf which would solve the problem. If there would be no user.interwiki.conf, the interwiki.conf would be used.

Meaning interwiki.conf would be the distributed (or globally-available) list while user.interwiki.conf would be what a WikiAdmin makes available based on this?
Yes that could work. Maybe local.interwiki.conf would be better as I don't think any user should be allowed to edit the local list - only Admins - otherwise links could too easily be broken.

I am very uncreative with names, didn't i tould that? :-)

My thought are based on the fact, that most people won't link to "DolphinWiki" (sorry dolphins ;-) and wikis like that. On the other side things like Sourceforge or google are "lost in the mass".

So a minimal list would make more sense for me. And people would be able to add Bilbe, dolphin and stuff like that on their own wiki.

Ok, somehow I managed to break [[http://directorium.org/InterWiki my interwiki links]]. @.@ I was cleaning out the list to get rid of ones that wouldn't be used, and now none of the links work. I tried restoring the list, but that didn't fix it. Any ideas?

I can see nothing broken on your page. Works just fine

This is so frustrating - I just copied over the text of one of the links that wasn't working for me into the sandbox where you tried out some - and it still won't work! I also tried copying and altering your wikipedia link - ditto. >.<

It is not the problem of you editing the interwiki links, but of the "_"

(Examples without the brackets)
Wikipedia:open_source wont be recognized as a link
Wikipedia:England will

Sourceforge:Projects/Wikka wont
Wikka:DeleteSpamAction will

A-ha! Thanks! I should have thought of that, because we tried to use anchors (ie Glossary/#:OpenSource and that didn't work, either, but making an interwiki to that url did.)

(That's really, really annoying.)

MovieLady, FYI you can take a look at http://wikka.jsnx.com/WantedFormatters for further ideas on integrating anchors, url titles and parameters in internal links (see section "A better formatter for forced internal links").

Well, it is fixed in the new version (see the Sandbox). Try the fix from WikkaBugsResolved ("Interwiki broken") - or install simply the new version ;-)

Cool, thanks DarTar - I found the AnchorAction page last night, but hadn't made it to the WantedFormatters. I shall take a look. :)

@JW and Nils: did you follow up on the idea of allowing admins/users to add personalized links to the default interwiki list (in a new file such as local.interwiki.conf or user.interwiki.conf)? An action similar to the {{newpage}} but allowing one to add links to a interwiki.conf file would be really interesting, like {{newinterwiki}}??

No, till now not.

My thoughts went into this direction: a form similar to myskin, i.e. in which you can choose an entry or "add entry". If you choose an existing entry you should have the option to modify both shortcut and url and to delete the entry.

But since that would be very much work for me, i decided to finish some other things first. But feel free to start a page for the development, if you like.

I modded one of my wikka-installations like this:
In wikka.php add these two lines right at the beginning of function ReadInterWikiConfig():
$userinterwikiconf = "interwiki.".$this->GetPageOwner().".conf";
$interwikiconf = is_readable($userinterwikiconf) ? $userinterwikiconf : "interwiki.conf";
Then replace file("interwiki.conf") with file($interwikiconf).
in actions/interwikilist.php add the same two lines right after <?php and make the same change for the call of file().
You can see the effect if you compare http://mib.ranta.info/InterWiki to http://mib.ranta.info/InterWikiTimoK
What is still needed is an action so users can clone the existing interwiki.conf and modify their clone. I am new to Wikka-Development, so if someone can get this done quickly I won't complain. I will try to get it done by myself too of course, but this might take a while.

TimoK,
Maybe I'm dense, or just very tired... what's the purpose of your mod? Where we are talking about centralizing interwiki definitions, it seems you are going in the opposite deriection and want to have an interwiki link work only for a single user? Why, or what am I missing? Why would I want to create links that are only links for me?

Oh, seems I missunderstood it, I thought the goal was to give users to define their own interwiki-stuff without the admin having to do it.
My mod still might be of use: Users could make their own interwiki-lists and use those until the admin decides to merge them into a system-wide interwiki-list.
If not, just disregard what I did :)

http://wush.net/trac/wikka/ticket/105 is marked "fixed" .. referring to http://wush.net/trac/wikka/changeset/31 which offers a diff list of some changes made. It doesn't appear that a final call on "the single / universal list" has been made yet, but have to point out that the changes depicted in the Bug Tracking list do not appear to have been made to this existing page (or the download archive) .. Is it just that no one has taken the time or is there some other reason in not updating the page here "at home" ...????

And of course also noting that even the fix/update was done prior to the data provided on http://wikkawiki.org/ANewHomeForWikka ...

WazoO, please note that the ticket *is* fixed: the request has been resolved, which doesn't imply that the code cannot undergo further improvements. If you want to suggest an overhaul of the list, go ahead, open a page and make a draft of the improvements you would like to implement.

Also note that the new code is available in the development version only, that's why the documentation (which applies to the latest stable release) has not been updated.

I don't understand your last sentence.
