i don`t understand how to implement wikiping function. i like to test, but don`t know, what things i have to add/change.

Actually, you'll need to point to the RPC handler page.
In the case of recentchanges.net, the address is:
http://recentchanges.net/rpc/wikiping.php
So, as Nils mentions, you would edit the wikiping_serer line in the wikka.config.php file:
"wikiping_server" => "http://recentchanges.net/rpc/wikiping.php",
For more technical details, check this site:

oh, everything is ok. the only thing i had to do is to add the wikiping_server in wikka.config.php als you mentioned. and now i see UnWiki @ recentchanges.net
thanks again!

It's a real shame about recentchanges.net going offline. It seemed like a really neat idea, and I was going hoping to persuade some other wiki software developers to make pinging mechanisms. Any more news on what happened to it? Anyone planning a replacement?

Harry, recentchanges.net is offline but Javawoman has saved the code for the ping-server so it is possible to open up a new one or thinking about other possibilities.

Argh!
I just found WikkaWiki today and got it installed, preferring it over MoinMoin due to the PHP architecture as opposed to Python. The WikiPing functionality sounded great when I came across it in the manual, I was disappointed to discover that recentchanges.net was abandoned. I was even more frustrated to find that some arsegoblin squatter just re-registered it *two days ago*! If only I'd come along two days sooner - story of my life .. :)
Has a replacement WikiPing server come online? If not, I've got gobs of bandwidth and a server sitting around mostly unused. Assuming the code that powered recentchanges.net is still around, I might be willing to pick up the torch...

oh, I hadn't realized someone had registered recentchanges.net - that's sad :(
We were planning to install a wikiping server on a subdomain at wikkawiki.org, but at the moment we are pretty busy with development for the next release. Thanks for offering bandwidth and hosting - maybe we should postpone the discussion on the resurrection of recentchanges after the release of 1.1.7?

I've no problem with postponing the thought. Since the last attempt apparently failed, I can understand why the community would want to "keep it in the family" (i.e. controlled by Wikka) when it comes to a replacement WikiPing server. My offer remains open indefinitely, though; feel free to get in touch when the issue comes up again.
