  Last weekend, we attended a web demo of Wolfram Alpha, a new "computational knowledge engine" based on the work of Stephen Wolfram. …so we think it's only fair that we share our own screenshots with our readers at this point.

  I’ve been a fan of WikkaWiki. It’s the light weight, ultra fast and highly customizable Wiki software. However, there are few glitches in WikkaWiki and some of it’s features like Actions and Handlers can be highly confusing to new users who never used Wiki software or used some standard stuff like MediaWiki (the software used by Wikipedia). One of the glitch is uploading Images and Files and linking/attaching them to your Pages. If you have this problem, follow the instructions below and have none of it.

  I started to experiment with a WikkaWiki-based homepage and was able to very quickly migrate my content and create a custom skin. I was impressed! There was a catch though. WikkaWiki did not support file uploads in an easy way, and custom markup (e.g. lists with a certain CSS class) seemed to be hard to achieve. Having the ability to upload files was essential for me, since I did not want to use an (S)FTP client everytime I wanted to add a publication or screenshot. Custom markup would be nice to style my publications list. Although WikkaWiki supports embedding HTML directly, it is obviously not ideal to have large amounts of embedded HTML in the content of a page.

  The reactable is a collaborative electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on a luminous round table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.

  Das Plugin ist sicherlich ein genialer Marketing-Coup um RPX zu promoten, bietet für mich aber (außer dem breiten Spektrum an Login-Möglichkeiten) keine wirkliche Alternative zu dem klassischen OpenID-Plugin von Will Norris.

  High-energy physics (HEP) experiments acquire huge datasets that may not be superseded by new and better measurements for decades or centuries. Nevertheless, the cost and difficulty of preserving both the data and the understanding of how to use them are daunting. The small number of cases in which data over ten years old have been reanalysed has only served to underline that such analyses are currently very close to impossible. … Technical issues including preserving the bits and preserving the ability to run ancient software on long-dead operating systems were also addressed.…Apart from the obvious ‘hold another workshop’ imperative, it seemed clear that experimental programmes that felt ‘we really must do something’ should be used as drivers. A first step must be to examine issues of cost, difficulty and benefit as quantitatively as possible so that the next workshop could have concrete discussions on the science case for various levels of data preservation.

• Frog CMS - Content Management Simplified | About
  Frog CMS simplifies content management by offering an elegant user interface, flexible templating per page, simple user management and permissions, as well as the tools necessary for file management. Frog requires PHP5, a MySQL database or SQLite 3 with PDO, and a web server (Apache with mod_rewrite is highly recommended). It is distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License. The source is available from Frog’s Google Code project page. Frog is unique because of its simple templating code. Because it uses PHP directly, there is no need to learn yet another scripting language.
